This session brings together outdoor industry professionals to develop consensus guidelines for managing two growing risks: extreme heat and wildfire smoke. Participants will collaborate to define practical operating thresholds for when to modify, postpone, or cancel trips, as well as clear protocols for responding when conditions deteriorate in the field. Through facilitated discussion and breakouts, participants will compare their own operating guidelines alongside published resources to inform a shared approach. Working in small groups, they will apply these inputs to specific scenarios to draft practical thresholds and response strategies. By the end, participants will co-create a draft framework of actionable thresholds and response strategies that can be adapted across programs. This session is designed for guides, program managers, risk managers, and organizational leaders seeking to move from ad hoc decision-making toward shared standards in an era of increasing climate variability.
